In 1933 the Soviet Socialistic Republic of Armenia was only 13 years old. The newly established state was making his first steps. Roots were put for the creation and implantation of governmental thinking in the society. The age-old will of the Armenians to see the national culture under the state auspices was becoming into reality. Newly state, cultural and educational institutions were created. And just in that year was founded the National Children's Library after Khnko Aper.  Acting as a central school library it had 2000 volumes, 80 readers and 30-seat reading room.  In 1935,  after the death of children's writer Khnko Aper, the library was renamed Children's Library after Khnko Aper. In the course of years the library enjoys popularity with readers due to the interesting and various activities that are carried out with them. Gradually both the number of books and the readers are increasing. In 1962 according to the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Armenian SSR, December 8, the library becomes republican and begins to perform the coordination of school and children's libraries of the republic. And since 1963 the library has implemented publication activities and it has published over 500 books till now.  In 1980 the library moved to a new building at Teryan Street. The large and comfortable building gave an opportunity to broaden the spheres of the library activities and to implement the service of the library more effective and purposeful.  In 1982 for its fruitful activity the library was awarded with scientific first degree. In 2003 according to the resolution of the government of Republic of Armenia the library was recognized as National Children's Library after Khnko Aper.
